Opposition parties hailed the JD(U)-BJP breakup as an indictment of the saffron party's "politics of intimidation" and said it could throw up an alternative at the national level. Congress readily backed the new alliance, even as Nitish Kumar dialled party chief Sonia Gandhi and MP Rahul Gandhi to thank them for their support.
